the origin story of this club is quite special. in 1922, an artists’ society was founded in this building.
a place where creatives came together to share music, ideas and conversations about art and culture. this society still exists today and is known as de kring.

due to updated fire and safety regulations, the society needed an additional emergency exit in order to stay open. there was no space to create one within the building itself. the solution turned out to be the neighbouring building behind de kring, which had exactly that exit door that was necessary.

that space was transformed into what is now club up. to this day, both worlds remain connected. on selected nights, visitors can move between club up and de kring. experiencing the energy of the club alongside the heritage of the artists’ society.

the name club up comes from a simple detail: no matter which entrance you use, you always walk upstairs to enter the space.
